About Belly Dance
(History of the Belly Dance)

Some say the belly
dance was used as a form of worship ceremony in
ancient temples dedicated to the Goddess. It was
thought that music and dance emanated energy and
was considered sacred and pure therefore offered
to the Goddess who in return would grant them
good health, fertility, and a prosperous season.
Others say it was a form of entertainment used
to please the great Pharaohs of Egypt. While
there is other belief, that belly dance was
originally brought by traveling gypsies from the
Far East and used as a trade and means of
survival. What we certainly do know is that it
has been around since the beginning of time
itself.
Today a majority
of it is used in festivities, celebrating joyful
proceedings, although, many secret Matriarchy
cults still practice ancient fertility rites and
ceremonies invoking to female Goddesses.
In the past,
women have been suppressed by those having a
subconscious trait of inferiority especially
towards women in the arts who utilize their
bodies as tools of expression. Unfortunately,
today some still hold that mentality.

(A) Bellydance
in the Present (Editorial by Bebe Dahl)
Every person from
Middle Eastern decent or identifiable with the
culture is familiar with this traditional dance,
whether they know the history or knowledge about
the belly dance is questionable. To accomplish a
successful performance, each and every movement
requires precision, and tact, presentation
counts, as well as being in a harmonized
co-ordination with the music. What makes it a
fine art is the complexity of the dance and the
method along with the dancer's skill, in other
words, "It's not as easy as it looks!"
It may take years and years for one to become an
expert. Many of today's bellydancers in the
Middle East still are devoted to teaching the
classical style of bellydance, where as here in
the West we are so fortunate to be culturally
enriched allowing us to infuse all forms of
dance styles.

(B) Why Belly
Dance?
The Bellydance is
the only dance that combines all exercise forms
from the exotic East. The main objective is to
achieve harmony within oneself through fitness
using ancient mystifying practices of the East.

need a belly to belly dance!
Belly Dancing is
for all women of shapes and sizes of all
ethnicity. It can be low impact or high impact
(advanced level) exercise.
While most women
who do attend my classes are eager, many are
some what intimidated or uneasy about what to
expect. Well, what will they expect? The results
are only optimistic, a time out from reality,
becoming in tune with themselves and their
bodies, allowing their inner selves to emerge,
and become one with the powers of the universe.
Its just great fun!!
